Join Susan McLeary of Passionflower in South Africa for a 3 Day Floral Design Workshop:

Embrace Bold Design

Susan is a world renowned floral designer, artist and educator who creates unusual, boundary-pushing floral art. Her soulful, seasonally-inspired creations and floral wearables have been described as exquisite living artwork. 

Susan is a member of Chapel Designers and Slow Flowers USA. This will be her first time teaching in South Africa and she is excited to explore new bold designs with local flowers.  

Sylvia is a South African florist living and working  New York. Hosting Susan in her home country so that she can share her wealth of knowledge and signature mechanics is a dream come true. Sylvia is a member of Slow Flowers USA and hopes that this workshop will encourage South African designers to tap into the wealth of locally grown resources available.

Cape Lily is honored to be hosting Susan McLeary of Passionflower for a skills packed,  hands-on 3 day floral design workshop at Langkloof Rose Farm in Wellington.

The workshop will focus on foam-free techniques using all locally grown and indigenous South African flowers, celebrating our unique local products and local growers.

We are thrilled to be joined by DP Ferreira of Ecozest as co-instructor and our resident indigenous design expert!

Detailed Itinerary breakdown:

18 March - 9AM start:

  • Welcome & introductions

  • Updated techniques for cascade and naturally styled bridal bouquets

  • Lunch

  • Foam-free centrepieces 

  • Evening - free time or optional group dinner at Langkloof

19 March:

  • The business of flowers workshop

  • Floral wearables: mechanics for versatile wrist & shoulder corsages, flowers for the hair, floral jewelry 

  • Lunch

  • Final touches to wearable designs

  • Styling bouquets & wearables to photograph with models

 

20 March:

  • Designing large scale foam-free installations and arches

  • Designing with locally grown & indigenous South African flowers with DP Ferreira

  • 4 course "veld-to-vase" farewell feast under the stars in the evening 

* We advise that guests check out of Langkloof Rose Farm on the morning  of March 21 to be able to enjoy the farewell dinner on the final evening

  • 3 day workshop including all flowers & materials

  • The business of flowers workshop and peer coaching session

  • Optional local flower farm tour on the afternoon of March 17

  • Lunch on 18.19,20 March

  • Cocktails in the field on March 19, the Wild Bunch Flower Farm

Investment & Registration:

We have limited spaces available to South African residents for the workshop. Bookings will be confirmed on a first pay first serve basis and are only guaranteed once proof of full payment or initial deposit is received via EFT. Payment plans of 3 installments are available upon request, with the final payment due two weeks before the workshop date.

FAQs:

  • Can I attend one or two days of the workshop instead of all 3?

No, the workshop is designed as three full days to get the most of the experience​

  • If I live in the area can I drive in for the workshop each day rather than stay on-site?

Yes, you are welcome to commute in each day

  • Are dinners and breakfasts included?

No, breakfast should be requested as part of your B&B accommodation booking and while recommendations will be given for dinners and participants likely to attend dinner as a group, they are not included in the cost, with the exception of the 4-course dinner on the final night

  • I am traveling in for the workshop, when should I plan to arrive and depart

We recommend checking in to Langkloof by 3pm on the afte​rnoon of Sat 17th March in time for some optional flower farm visits and group activities and checking out on the morning of Wed 21st March

Terms & Conditions:

  • Payment in full or the equivalent of one payment installment is required to secure the booking and is non-refundable after 24 hrs.

  • Payment balance:  The balance of the workshop cost is due no less than 14 days before the date of the workshop. If full payment is not received by such due date, Cape Lily may treat the booking as cancelled and shall retain the amount paid on booking as a cancellation fee and offer a space to another participant

  • If the workshop is booked less than 14 days before the departure date then the full amount is payable at the time of booking in order for the booking to be confirmed. 

  • Late Payment: Failure to make a payment within fourteen days of the agreed upon date is a breach of contract and will result in the cancellation of your booking. Cape Lily maintains the right to assign your space to another participant

  • Payment methods: We accept payment via EFT in South African Rands only. Cape Lily is not responsible for any charges levied or charged by third parties and/or financial institutions associated with payment transactions in connection with the purchase.

  • Refunds: Refunds will only be issued if Cape Lily is forced to cancel or reschedules the journey should the minimum number of participants (10) not be met.

  • If circumstances arise which prevent you from being able to attend, transferal of your space is allowed with express prior approval from Cape Lily.  

  • Should Cape Lily be forced to postpone or cancel the journey due to low attendance (fewer than 10 participants) or an unforeseeable life event, participants will be given a full refund.

  • Cape Lily is not responsible for any incidental expenses or consequential losses that participants may have incurred as a result of any cancelled booking such as flights, accommodation or other expenses and recommends that participants purchase trip cancellation insurance when booking flights.
